Hi Jeremy,   when you get a chance, would you please email me the location on the Hwy where you found the hawk, a mile marker, between Ridgeway/ Colona/ Montrose, an address, a building/business, etc.  We return all birds right back where they came from, as they know who their predators are, where to find food, seek shelter, and often times they have a mate waiting.
Thank you for your patience this morning while I made lots of phone calls to help you and the hawk out.
Dr. Bettye Hooley of the Morningstar Vet clinic and her staff volunteer their services to help me help wildlife.  The bird will be x-rayed tomorrow, fecal examined, and gone over inch by inch for injuries and parasites.  Maybe the bird is just stunned from a collision with a vehicle.  This past year, 1/3 of the birds that came in died within 24 hours, another 1/3 had to be put down, and the other 1/3 was released.  
This time of year, the majority of the birds we see are unsuccessful hunters, either very old, or the past spring's babies, just not meant to survive.   Most of the old birds that we see have cataracts==we are wondering why so many.  Also,  we test all eagles for lead and aggro-phosphate poisoning---and they tests positive for one or both.  Wish we had the $$ to test every single bird that comes in.   Aggro-phosphates are the chemical fertilizers used to grow corn, herbicides and pesticides.   Olathe Sweet Corn is Ariel sprayed---think about all the bugs, rodents, birds and other wildlife in the field eating when it is sprayed.  We are killing our wildlife.

Hello Everyone,
The Swainsons Hawk had a large, open wound in her throat just above her  collar bone.  By the time the vet's were able to examine the bird today, the tissue was blue, which means it was dead.  This included the trachea and esophagus.   The bird was put down.  She had excellent weight on.  No clues as to how she got that wound.  
Thank you, CPW volunteers Terry, Cheryl and Nic for getting the bird out of the hands of the public, transported to me and to the vets at Morningstar.

Your in the city, the suburbs, or out in the country side. We are all engaging in activity, or better known as work. It starts out: planned activities, we know and understand what we have to do from brushing our teeth to looking both ways before we cross the road. We all know that, you'll be looking out for more cars in the city, rather in the country side. It's conscience decision making we do almost unknowingly really. Put yourself there- in that mind set of just unknowingly knowing.
        I left my place where I grew up. My family, some friends, & work. There's a comfort with normality, that I'm finding in the Unknown now. The will power to be in such a disconnect from society and ease into nature while I'm susceptible  to the natural risks of being Free in the wild. I'm okay with the risks, I take them head on most of the time. I mentally prepare myself and act on it. I engage in moving forward, even if it's going backwards. There are lines that we just don't cross. What happens when we have to cross that line? That's my newest focus. The condition's that I'm not comfortable with, engage, & hopefully conquer.  Trial and error-
        I get back into a populated area. I like taking some down time enjoying a cold beer at the local pub. I'll sit there for some time, sipping my drink, letting it all sink in. Where I am, where I came from, What I've learned, and how I'll be bettering myself on the next jont as well as where that next place is going to be
        Being social, communicating with locals, getting to know the area and making contacts, that is, engaging a situation. I don't alway look to chat with the people around myself. I find at times its the complete opposite. I sit, drink, and don't say a word. I'm not being anti-social rather than an observer. I observe the act of the disconnect of others to their surroundings, I'm just "There." I don't feel obligated to engage. That's something I've found with time or maybe it's age. Quality over quantity. I want to get something from the people i talk to. That's how we grow in Life and experience.

I don't know how to start off by anything more real. Sometimes we're out of our element and caught with our pants down. We hope we can make it butt sometimes we adapt to our surrounding's.
As I go too different location's I see it all sometimes more than I'd ever want to remember. I'm now working my way up the ladder in finding the right places. What are the right places- sometimes holding it, thats not always the case.
Here's what I've found.

  Rest Stops off the Freeway
We pass them more than we probably realize in our travels. I stopped at this one off rt.70. The Heat was on and this place was Clean. The enclosed bunker entrance seemed tuff enough to withstand the harshest of condition's Colorado could throw its way. Ample Parking for both Cars and 18 wheelers

After my avalanche course, a 3 day stay in the San Juan Mountains I needed to get cleaned up. The north side of town in Durango,Co. not only can you wash your clothes but hot showers with  are available as well. Laundry mats are a good spot to charge devices while waiting as well as catching up on Logs or whatever catching up you need in your down time. They usually have local bulletin boards with events, for sale ad's, & people to chat with about the best local spot to get some food and brews. I found another laundry mat with hot showers in Essex Park just outside of the Rockey Mountains.

 Those cases I had mentioned about not wanting to remember. Here's a prime example. Sometimes the local Punk bar is the closest around but it might not be the place I'm going to "drop a load off at!" Instead I might choose to find a Fast food joint instead.
Finding a Bathroom from Construction Site Port-O-Potty's, Food Stores, Starbucks, Wal Marts, Libraries, etc .. They are available and out there.
Showers sometimes are a bit more tricky to locate. A list of places i tend to look for when I need to shower are: YMCA's, Wrec Centers, Gyms, Marina's, Hostels, & Camp sights are a good starting point. When actual showers aren't an option we do still have Choice! How's that you ask.....wet wipes can help for starters. There cheap and do the trick when we really need it most. Portable Solar Showers Bags- hang it in the sun & after a day of hiking you have warm water to shower with. Rivers, Lakes, or other natural water sources work as well- Just don't soap up in the water source- it's not fair to the fish or other animals amongst other reasons I think we're aware of.
